What is a Thesis Statement?
Are you writing a paper and confused by your teacher’s instruction? Do you want to help your teenager with a school essay but feel lost as to what advice to give? Are you returning to school yourself, after years away, and find that first essay assignment overwhelming? Is there a local or state issue that you need to write a legislature about but are unsure of how to structure your thoughts?
Everyone runs into these situations at some point. People need to know how to state their viewpoints, how to support their views and how to present information properly. Considering that the writing process takes most writers years to perfect, it is common for teenagers and professional adults alike to struggle with writing.
Included in the course is a downloadable copy of The Simple Guide to Thesis Statements and Support, the reference book that shows you how to write and support a thesis statement for any writing project. Use the book to refer to as you move through classes and improve your writing.
Having spent the last two decades in school, both as a professional student and as an educator, my passion for education and learning is boundless. After many years of studying, I hold undergrad degrees in Literature and History and Master’s degrees in Writing and Communication, Educational Leadership, and a Master’s Certificate in Creative Writing.
Most of my writing is instructional nonfiction and curricular content to support novice readers and writers. I absolutely love creating courses and thrive off of hearing that I was able to help someone work through a challenging situation and return to the creative path.
Writing poetry and novels is a pursuit I share with my family. When my kids were little, I wrote each of them a book series around characters they invented. As they grew, I wrote books to fit their changing interests. My daughter once asked me to write about a character named Lily, who as my daughter described, “Wore a yellow dress, beat up the bad guys, and flew a rocket in space.” I happily complied.
Besides teaching and writing, my other love is nature. I love Nordic skiing and snowshoeing in the winter and make a point to get outdoors even on the really cold days. In the summer, I am either lakeside getting ready for kayaking or hitting the road to go camping. Nature is my church, my therapy, my happy place.
